Benedict Canyon is an Old English style house built in 1922. Our client desired a landscape design for his new home, which matched his creative imagination and fun personality. To fulfill his vision, we created a well-manicured English style plant palette design that complimented the home’s architectural integrity.
First, we used unusual succulents along with other plant material in various cute little nooks and small garden areas around the home. We also added boxwood balls in the grass area by the entrance. To extend the whimsical, but manicured feel to the pool, we addeda water feature and planted potswith citrus and colorful under-plantings on the pool deck.
Since our client loves to cook, we brought in a variety of edible plant material including citrus, mulberry and apple trees. For an extra touch, each tree wasunder-planted with herbs, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. And to complete the garden experience, we raised vegetable beds next to the kitchen area so they can grow their choice of seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Lastly, we were able to tie together a couple of the home’s original elements – a large birdcage and original brick – into the new landscape. Hanging driftwood, air plants and bromeliads were used to create a natural work of art inside the antique birdcage. New pathways and an extended patio were laid with colored brick original to the home.
The client was very happy with the final look and feel of each area and was especially excited about the small inspirational gardens and how well the landscape complimented the architecture of the home.
